Horrible customer service. No respect for the customer. I was being totally ignored. I CLEARLY walked up to one of the counters. I patiently waited because one associate was busy with a customer. Two other employees were working on a bicycle behind the counter. Not even a "Hello, sir. We'll be right with you." I assumed that they just needed to finish something and they would come right over. I waited over five minutes. Another customer walks up to the counter right next to me. WHAT DO YA KNOW? "Hello, sir. I'll be right with you." They don't even acknowledge me as they assist him. I was helped right after him but I didn't even want to mention what just happened. I just wanted to leave. And what did I notice when I got home? The new tire and tube I purchased to replace the flat WASN'T EVEN INFLATED. I don't know why I was treated in such a manner. I think they were just jealous of my rugged good looks. I will never return to this establishment. I purchased my bicycle here but I'll take it somewhere else for a tune up.
Wheel and Sprocket (Hales Corners Location) has a great inventory that was fun to browse through, but I was extremely disappointed with my experience there.
Please just be honest with the customer- it really doesn't seem like too much to ask. I am big guy, I understand that retail shops don't cater their inventory to my size--- thats okay! Tell me you will order my size and it will be here in two weeks. Ditch the "used car salesman" facade and sell me something that is going to fit. You are much more than just salesmen; you are in many cases the biggest promoter of the sport.
I was greeted at the door by a sales guy who was very helpful. Since I have never been to this location, I like to under-represent my knowledge about the sport a little bit- asking some basic questions that I know the answer to in order to see how much I trust the sales guy. At first, everything checked out so I told him what I was looking for and we set out to find it in his (very impressive,) large inventory.
Everything was going great until he started to tell me that there is no way anyone would need an XL frame and that "I would be better off on a large so that I could really throw my weight around and be more nimble". Coincidently, he didn't have an XL in stock. I couldn't believe it. If I were new to the sport, I might have trusted him, bought the bike, then been completely dissatisfied.
I was very disappointed in the sales guy I was working with. I am looking at a buying a plus size hard tail to add to my collection and thought I would give Wheel and Sprocket a try based on their excellent reputation in the area. To put this in perspective, I am 6' 6" with a 32" inseam, very rarely does a bike shop stock a frame in my size, so I am used to having to order something- I completely understand that my size isn't going to be a hot seller.
If I could give less than one star, I would. I came into the store and there was nobody in the store at all. I didn't even see a salesperson. I started looking at the bikes that were on sale as I was just looking for something to get started on. After seeing a few that I liked at a pretty good price, I was still looking for someone to help me. Another patron came in the store and all of a sudden there were two employees coming toward him; walked right past me on their way!!! Never made a comment like "we'll be right with you" or "can I help you" ... just kept on walking. Horrible customer service; or should I say non-existent customer service. Will never ever go back in that store; not even if they are giving bikes away for free.
Update: Although I was originally looking for a brand that W&S stocks, I found myself at a competing bike shop that put me on their sizing bike, and i walked out the door with a (an order confirmation for a) 2XL competing brand. I say this to point out how ridiculous it is that he was going to try to sell me a Large.
I'd like to take a moment to recommend the team at Wheel and Sprocket, the one-stop bike shop. They ensure each customer is 100 percent happy with their purchase, with a 30-day satisfaction and price match guarantee. I encourage anyone who has a passion for biking or is interested in making a difference in their community to get involved with this incredible business.
I called around and was looking for a good price on a bike fitting since I'm on a budget. I called and spoke with Eric and he got me in for a fitting. He did an absolutely wonderful job and took care of every issue I had. Went for a bike ride after and it felt like a completely new bike. He also showed me some new bikes since I'm starting to look for a replacement, and explained what to look for in a good bike. His customer service was absolutely amazing, and after trying a few shops in the area, I think I've found my new LBS! Kudos, Eric!
